About: Earth's Enduring Echo

Last Thursday, January 1st, 2026 for those of you in the future, I posted the first piece of Earth's Enduring Echo; "Sing To Me, O Muses", and I can just about hear the questions people will be asking already:

Is this a poetry project?
If it's not poetry, what genre is it?
What is this thing about anyway?
Are you going to post this entire thing here?
Really, invoking the Muses? What, so this is an epic? What is an epic, anyway?
Is the picture on this post related somehow?

In short, my friends... Actually, forget that, let me just try to properly explain myself for once.

Is this a poetry project?

It is not a poetry project, although parts of it are poetry. Each piece will be the style of writing it needs to be, and I do mean that poetry, prose of many styles and genres, and possibly even nonfiction pieces will work their way into this. While I know many of the moving pieces contained within this work of art I am about to create, I do not know all of their shapes yet. I'll adjust as I go!

Don't worry, I'm extremely flexible, I have EDS. (I am allowed to make jokes about my condition, it's in the contract.)

If it's not poetry, what genre is it?

The genre is hard to define! There are a few reasons I started by invoking the Muses, one of them is that this story (for it is a story I will be telling) starts in the age of myth, moves into history, through to the present day, and beyond into a completely fictional future that splits and blends between fantasy and science fiction. There will be elements of philosophy, mythology, true science, and metaphysics woven throughout. I have themes! I have a message, a lot of them as it turns out. And I have no idea what genre to tell you this is.

For the sake of brevity, let's call it myth punk. That's not accurate, but it's close enough.

What is this thing about anyway?

It's about humanity. Everything we have been, everything we are, everything we could be in every possible sense that I can manage. It's about things that always change, it's about things that cannot be changed, and it is about things that could be changed if humanity would try to change them. It's a story of humanity's relationship with hope, of humanity's grasp of truth, of humanity's faith in each other, of human history, of what humanity can accomplish when we collaberate, and of humanity's duty to each other and to our surroundings.

I expect I will get hate mail. I look forward to it! Any haters, if you are unfamiliar with me, I feel I should tell you that I get so much encouragement from people telling me how much I am going to fail and why I should stop and how I'm going to hell. It's honestly music to my ears. Nom nom nom, the hate of the ignorant tastes like success to me.

Regardless, I hope you will comment with with your thoughts! Angry, inspired, questioning, doubtful, it's all useful to me and I will read every word. Anrgy comments will just go in a special folder titled "success smells like..."

Are you going to post this entire thing here?

I am not going to post the entirety of this project here. I will post specific pieces here. Some others I will post on my Patreon, once I get it vaguely cleaned up. Some I will post here under a pay tier or two. Some I will not post at all.

Someday, please don't ask me to define when, this project will be complete and I will publish it all together, in its entirety. There is a Very Specific Plan for this, I promise it will make sense when I get there! But it is a cool Very Specific Plan and I honestly think it will hit a lot better if I do it properly. I do not, however, see any problems with teasing a few bits.

Really, invoking the Muses? What, so this is an epic? What is an epic, anyway?

And yes; I am invoking The Muses for this one. This is, indeed, an epic I am writing. An epic, by the way, is a very old form of writing. The Iliad, The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Odyssey, and Beowulf are all epics. In many epics, a Muse is invoked, or a symbol equivalent to a Muse during the years of "if you reference anything non-Christian, we will kill you until you die from it."

As for what an epic is, there are a few definitions, but for this purpose I'll quote Merriam-Webster's 3rd definition of the noun form of "epic":

- a work of art (such as a novel or drama) that resembles or suggests an epic

This is my best effort at an epic. That means I invoke the Muses, first and foremost (could probably use the help anyway!). This will not be short. There will be a journey from Point A to where I know it must end, with many adventures mundane and perilous between. We're gonna be here a while, gang. And no, I don't know if invoking the Muses will help or not, but hey. It's more traditional than tradition and I'll take it on faith that it certainly can't hurt.

Is the picture on this post related somehow?

Yes. It was created for Art Fight 2025 using characters from Earth's Enduring Echo, along with three other illustrations.

An illustration of a woman standing on a forest path, looking apprehensively to her left. She is dressed in an outfit similar to those worn in Mycenaean Greece, judging from the mosaics and pottery of women we have found...

Did I miss anything?

If you have more questions, feel free to drop them in the comments! I'll answer as best I can, unless it's something I've decided to be mysterious about. But I will tell you if I won't tell you something, I won't just leave you hanging! I am AuDHD, I am dyslexic. I am well aware of the probability I have left you with more questions than answers. In some ways, I'm not convinced that's a bad thing.

Still, I'm not going to be a dick about it. If I am willing and able to provide clarity, I'd like to. The last thing I want to do is confuse people accidentally. If you have questions, I am very keen to answer them!

And regardless... I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I am going to enjoy writing it. I hope I do it half the justice it deserves from what I have in my head.
